Saab 9-5 (1997 on)
The 9-5 is very well made but loses value fast, so best bought used; high spec on most models.
2.0 has good mid-range pulling power; turbo-diesels are torquey, especially the 3.0 TiD and the V6 is very quick.
Interior is comfortable and seating issupportive; large boot space.
V6 versions have front and side airbags; rear centre three-point seatbelts; ABS and traction control as standard.
Deadlocks, immobilisers, alarms and remote central locking on all models.
Revised range in Sept 2001: rebadged Linear (previously base model), Arc (previously SE) and Vector (previously Airflow), with detailed changes; Auto models now have five-speed transmission; 3.0TiD joined range. 2.2TiD added in Feb 02. Revisions in Oct 02: 2.2 TiD models now available with 5-speed auto option; all Auto models except 2.2 TiD now have Sentronic steering wheel mounted push-button sequential gear selection.
Saab 9-5 2.0t = five-speed manual gearbox or switchable four-speed auto transmission, remote central locking with deadlocking, headlamp wash/wipe, fully adjustable steering column and electric mirrors. SE specification adds climate control, uprated audio, alloy wheels, alloy wheels, front fog lamps and wood fascia veneer. Options include electric front seats, leather upholstery and a CD autochanger, Saab computer and cruise control and metallic/mica paint.
